Screening a Mixed Lot of Solar Panels

An anonymised enquiry illustrates how estimated damage and different acceptance terms can make two panel offers hard to compare.

The lot and the offers

A seller asked for one price for several hundred modules, including a smaller group described as damaged or severely damaged. The seller gave a rough count for that group. A potential buyer indicated a price for panels described as in good condition and expected to arrange transport. The seller later reported a competing per-panel offer covering the entire lot.

What changed the comparison

The first buyer’s rate applied to one condition group. The competing figure was reported to apply across the lot. A like-for-like comparison requires agreement on which panels are accepted, which count sets payment, who covers loading and transport, and how the parties handle discrepancies or rejections.

“Good condition” was an enquiry-stage description. Performance and suitability for reuse would need their own assessment.

Where the record ends

This note covers the screening and offer discussion. The competing offer was seller-reported. The available record ends before a final acceptance, transfer or processing outcome.

What to record on your next lot

Use one inventory row per module type and condition group. Mark estimates and untested modules clearly. Ask each receiving party to specify what it accepts, the quantity used for payment, pickup terms and who handles any rejected modules.

If you are comparing offers, put them on the same acceptance and cost basis.
